Our parents and their parents would normally equate the words six pack two something that came in a soda or beer can rather than the activities people carry out to give themselves extreme abdominal muscles.
And as far as all of the body art that many of us seem obsessed with obtaining, the idea that one could design own tattoo activities that would result in a 'body artist' painting us with a literal universe of designs as if we were the Illustrated Man, who would've thought it could be so? Tattoos in those days were things that came out of parlors around Navy bases, usually.
Popular culture is so ubiquitous that we couldn't come close to being able to escape it even if we wanted to. It confronts us on a 24/7 basis and does almost nothing we can do to keep it from intruding on us. Just about every person of the Amish faith can probably attest to that fact whenever they come close to being hit by a car while they're out in their horse-drawn carriages.
People like the Amish are forced to deal with popular culture and try to prevent it from trespassing on their own lives whenever they can. They probably look at us as being far too much in touch with the here and now and our own self-involvement then they usually are. However, most people not Amish probably wouldn't dream of going back to the actual old days that we sometimes pine about.
For a fact, there is no way of ever being able to completely eliminate popular culture in our lives. But our grandparents probably pondered on that same question when they first saw Elvis Presley doing his grinding and wiggling on television. However, we look at that and wonder what all the concern was about. It's fairly certain that people have century from now will wonder the same thing about us.

One of the most difficult things is to welcome change. However, society today provides many avenues to achieve this change.
